Who are we?

We are a group of people of varying ages and lifestyles who meet once a week to practice our communication and leadership skills. We range from veteran Toastmasters to newbies, and our supportive environment encourages members to work towards their goals at their own pace. Our meetings follow a formal agenda, but our culture is relaxed and we always have a lot of fun! We work hard to improve our speaking, listening, and evaluation skills but make sure we have plenty of laughs along the way.

What are our meetings like?

As a lunch time club, we have just one hour to get through our entire agenda, so you can imagine that we are very effective with time management! A normal meeting starts with an introductory session, during which we practice giving and replying to toasts, delivering jokes, and sharing tools and techniques. A formal speech session follows, where a member will deliver a prepared speech. During the Table Topics session, we practice impromptu speaking by answering questions posed by the Table Topics Master of the day and finally, in our evaluation session, we give and receive feedback on everything that happened during the meeting.

Throughout the year we hold some "special" meetings that don't adhere to the traditional format. These might include contests, debates, improv games, mock trials, or themed Table Topics - we like to shake things up from time to time!

What are the benefits of membership?

  • learn to deliver effective speeches and presentations
  • become a better conversationalist (really!)
  • practice leading meetings and teams of people
  • give and receive constructive evaluations
  • become a better listener
  • meet people and expand your network
  • mentor and coach new members

Toastmasters provides opportunities to take on leadership roles outside the club, to mentor new clubs, to attend conferences and to compete in contests - the International Contest leads all the way up to the World Championship of Public Speaking!

While some of our members are true Toastmasters junkies and extend their involvement outside the club, many simply enjoy coming to meetings each week.

Visit us!

We don't bite! In fact, we don't even require you to speak at all unless you're comfortable doing so.

Guests are welcome to visit us during our meetings every Tuesday from 12:05pm to 1:00pm at the Calgary Transit Administration Building, 928 32nd Ave Connector NE (aka the bus barns on 32nd Ave just west of the Deerfoot).

No pressure to speak, no pressure to join until you're ready. We'd love to have you.
